Nintendo kicked off their E3 2009 press conference with the announcement of The New Super Mario Bros. Wii, afour-player co-operative take on classic 2D Mario gameplay.
The New Super Mario Bros. Wii combines the classic 2D gameplay of the original Super Mario Bros. with four-player co-operative play to create a new Mario experience. Remember watching your friends play the game on the NES? Imagine being able to join in, with a scaling screen. It's like four swords, but with 2D Mario!
The New Super Mario Bros. Wii will be available this Holiday season.
New Super Mario Bros for Wii has just been unveiled at the Nintendo E3 keynote, and it’s a magnificent retro mutation of a game. There’s the instantly recognisable sidescrolling look of the old Super Mario Bros, but with a 3D styling and 4 player mayhem thrown in for good measure.
Super Mario Bros for WiiYou can pick up other players in New Super Mario Bros to help or hinder them and bounce of enemies, and there’s a new power up, the Propeller Suit, which will see you zooming up in the air with a flick of the Wiimote. It’s competitive though - you race to get hold of the flag at the end, and anyone who grabs it three seconds after the first player gets bonus points too.
You’ll be able to get hold of New Super Mario Bros for Wii for yourself this Christmas, but you’ll have to get up early to beat us to the front of that queue.
